The natural solution to replace missing teeth

Missing a tooth or teeth isn’t something we take lightly here at White Smiles.

It’s not for nothing that ‘teeth falling out’ is such a common anxiety dream – missing teeth have an emotional impact that goes even deeper than the obvious physical problems they cause. Luckily, with the advanced technology of dental implants, missing teeth can be efficiently replaced – for life.

At White Smiles we’re delighted to be able to offer our patients Straumann dental implants in Ascot, Sunningdale and Sunninghill.

Why choose dental implants?

They’re permanent.
Unlike other dental restorations,  implants can last for decades with good oral hygiene.

They’re lifelike.
Dental implants look and feel just like a normal tooth – they’re so natural, most patients can’t tell the difference.

They’re strong.
A dental implant replaces the root of a tooth, creating a foundation on which a prosthetic tooth can be attached. This foundation bonds with your bone tissue, securing the implant permanently in place.

They’re anti-ageing.
Left untreated, missing teeth cause jaw shrinkage, which in turn causes premature facial sagging. By supporting your jaw structure, implants prevent this from happening, keeping you looking younger for longer.

They’re flexible.
If you want to replace all your teeth with implants, you don’t need to undergo surgery for every single tooth! With the revolutionary All-on-4 treatment, your dentist can fit a permanent full arch with just four implants, in a single procedure.

How do dental implants work?

Dental implants are extremely strong, biocompatible plugs that are surgically implanted in the jawbone. Once implanted the bone naturally grafts to the implant over a period of a few weeks, securing it permanently in place.

For individual implants, a bespoke prosthetic tooth is then attached once the implant has successfully integrated.

For All-on-4 treatments, it is not necessary to wait for this process.

What does the procedure involve?

Consultation
An implant consultation at White Smiles will involve a thorough assessment of your mouth and jaw. We will need to determine the amount and density of jawbone and whether it is sufficient to support the required implant or implants. If not, you may still be able to have implants after preliminary procedures, such as a sinus lift or bone grafting, to build up your jaw bone.

Surgery
Implant surgery is carried out using a very precise measuring technique, which reduces trauma and helps to speed up recovery time. The procedure is usually carried out under local anaesthetic and involves very little, if any, discomfort. Patients will be sent home with a comprehensive aftercare plan to manage recovery. You can usually return to work within two days of implant surgery.

Integration
Following surgery, you’ll need to wait a few weeks for the implant to integrate successfully with your jaw bone. Your dentist can fit you with a temporary crown or bridge during this time.

Restoration
Once integration is deemed a success; you will be able to have your custom-made prosthetic fitted and fine-tuned. You’ll need to attend regular hygiene appointments to ensure your implants remain in top condition.

Implant FAQs

Are implants right for me?
If you have good oral health, it is likely that implants will be suitable for you. When you have your implant consultation at White Smiles, the dentist may recommend preliminary procedures, such as extractions, bone grafting or periodontal treatment, to get your mouth, teeth and gums in top condition before implant surgery can be considered.

Which dental implant brand does White Smiles use?
At White Smiles we use high-tech Straumann implants, which are specially treated to prevent the gradual bone loss that can occur with traditional implants.

What is the All-on-4 treatment?
Suitable for replacing missing or compromised front teeth (but not molars), the All-on-4 treatment combines four dental implants with a dental bridge, and allows your dentist to fit a full-arch replacement in one day. Implants are tilted for optimal stability, often doing away with the need for bone grafting.
